There's a very, very good chance Sucker Punch Productions has a PS5 sequel to Ghost of Tsushima in development, but according to Jeff Grubb, it won't be one of Sony's big announcements for next week's PlayStation Showcase. The Giant Bomb journalist interjected during a The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom discussion on his Game Mess Decides podcast that Ghost of Tsushima 2 won't be at the show, and neither will BioWare RPG Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
Not based on his own personal predictions, it appears Grubb receives the tip-off from a source whilst live on air. Earlier in the podcast, co-host Mike Minotti made the suggestion of a Ghost of Tsushima sequel reveal during the livestream, which Jeff Grubb agreed with. Therefore, it seems safe to say an outside source tuned in and sought to provide Grubb with extra information. "Moving back to PlayStation Showcase, I might have just sniffed out two things that won't be there, if that helps anybody. It doesn't sound like Ghost of Tsushima 2 will be there," he says.
As one of the original sources a PlayStation Showcase would be taking place in the coming weeks, Grubb has a proven, reliable track record at this point for accurate reporting. Therefore, it may be worth lowering any expectations you have for a Ghost of Tsushima-related reveal during next week's show. The PlayStation Showcase is set to air on Wednesday, 24th May 2023 at 9pm BST / 1pm ET / 4pm ET. We can look forward to over one hour of PS5 and PSVR2 titles.
Was this one of your predictions? Wait a bit longer in the comments below.

It's a shame. I'm afraid this showcase will be packed with Marvel stuff which I'm not excited at all. Glad for those who are, though.
My only wish for this show is for one colourful platformer, preferably by Media Molecule
Personally I didn't think it would be, it feels a bit too soon for Ghost of Tsushima 2, plus if Rise of the Ronin releases next year, is it really a good idea to release 2 Exclusive Samurai centric Games in the same year? At best there might be a teaser similar to what they did with God of War Ragnarok, where they just show the logo with Jin Sakai voiceover, other than that I think Ghost of Tsushima 2 will get a proper reveal in 2024 and will release Early 2025, same year as I believe Wolverine will release.
I'll be happy with Spiderman 2, an update on FFVII: Rebirth and Stellar Blade, honestly. I pray nothing more is shown of FFXVI, as so much has been shown already and it's getting into 'Deathloop Meme' territory now.
Interested to learn what TLoU: Factions has to offer too.
If I had to throw a wildcard in and make a bold prediction, I'm going to say a reveal of the next game in the GoW universe...
Hopes for HL Alyx
I still think it will be there as a "one more thing" type of annoucement , could just be confirmation that a ghost sequel is indeed in the works. It's already been 3 years since the original release though, if a sequel is targeting a 2024 release ( I personally don't think so) then we will most likely get a gameplay trailer.
Edit:
I think Sony may do what they did with Wolverine, reveal GOT 2 early just so that nothing leaks beforehand. It's either this or Santa Monica's new IP that will be a " one more thing" announcement. ( Based on Hermen's recent visit to SMS and the interesting fact that some of the Santa Monica devs retweeted the Showcase announcement.)
BTW I heard that the long-awaited Project Awakening may be shown at the PS Showcase, apparently Cygames tweeted that they were going to be there, I don't know if this is true I'm just going off of what someone else told me.
No more rumours! Just let the whole show be a surprise.
Half Life 3 will also not be there I heard.
@JustPlainLoco That was a fake account and not the real Cygames account lol, this was confirmed by Gematsu themselves.
Gutted to be honest.
As long as Metal Gear Solid is present; I will not riot.
Would have been nice, but wasn't expecting it. Maybe team RGG will come with a remake of Yakuza kenzan instead, or we get to see more of Ronin.
Neither is Gravity Rush 3. I'd love a new GR.
@JustPlainLoco But showing a game this year does not mean it has to be released in 2024, right? Ghost of Tsushima was revealed in 2018 and it came out in 2020.
Not surprised GoT2 aint being shown yet, feels a little early right now. Expecting a brand new surprising IP or maybe two from a PS 1st party studio, similar to how impressive the HZD reveal was from Guerrilla. Be surprised if we don't see Spidey2 gameplay unless most of it is being saved for a dedicated SoP
Even though its Grubb, this makes sense.
Most likely Rise of the Ronin will feature there instead.
No reason to watch now.
@KaijuKaiser No, sorry, I mean not in numbers but time. I fear half an hour from the 1 hour show would be Spiderman and maybe Wolverine. But it's ok, I know many gamers are looking forwards to those. I hope it will be a great show for everyone!
If it's not time it's not time. As far as I'm concerned Sucker Punch basically has a flawless track record so they can take all the time they need. They are my favorite 1st party developer for Playstation.
Besides there's plenty of other games to show in the mean time.
Would like a release date for Suikoden remasters - but also some more info/trailer about the Eiyuden Chronicles game. Additionally, anything Legend of Heroes related I’ll happily take!
I would like to hear more about the Little Devil Inside Game - it’s practically been silent since it was shown at a PS showcase a few years ago now.
Even just a minute of wolverine gameplay and I would be a very happy camper. If insomniac can nail the feeling of being wolverine like they did with Spiderman it’s going to be amazing.
I’m not surprised by this. I’d imagine that’d be something we’d potentially see next year at the earliest. I don’t even know what to expect in this showcase, but there’s plenty of previously announced titles that don’t have release dates, and I’m certainly hoping for a few surprises this fall.
Hopefully some exiting PSVR2 first party content (more like GT7 and RE:village than horizon please)
I'm looking forward to Spider-Man 2 Gameplay and hoping for new IP announcement from Sony Studios.
@RonnieL I'm with you there! Seeing that this is a Showcase and not a State of Play, it's bound to have a few reveals and gameplay showings.
Last one we had was in 2021 which had some nice announcements but 2020's one was simply a knockout, so regardless we're in for a treat hopefully
I'd like to see more of Rise of the Ronin, and a release date.
Tired of all these rumours. Let's just watch the showcase and enjoy whatever it is we get shown. All these rumours do is fuel backlash.
I'm fine with that as long as those new IPs are great and something good for PSVR2. Make me want to buy a PSVR2 this year Sony. Just need Sack boy 2 in with VR mode and Astrobot 2
Ghost of Tsushima 2 is the game I want most of all! Hoping this is wrong and we see something about it.
@Kanji-Tatsumi I agree, I want to see a game that has a colorful/cartoon/comic art style to it
I'm not too surprised on this. Incredible first game set the bar high. Perhaps we'll hear of the sequel next year.
Shame but will be surprised if there isn't a few massive drops. Hype train.
If such a game exists, I don't think it would be released until 2025/2026 which is way too far in the future to be in the showcase. If Sony's learned from others, this showcase should be all about 2023 with some 2024 reveals.
@Tatarimokke Agree, I would take GoT2 over Spider-man any day! Spider-man was a once and done for me.
That's ok. All I need is updates on games listed on the ps store already. Mainly Stellar Blade.
Tsushima's story is kinda concluded though, so if they're gonna make another one it probably wont be a direct sequel with a different name.
I honestly didn’t expect it to be there. But, I’m excited to continue Jin’s story whenever it comes out! One of my rare Day 1 purchases and first ever platinums was the first game. Can’t wait for the eventual sequel!
If we see Dreadwolf at all this year, I'll be surprised. It'll be a minor miracle if it shows up this summer.
I don't even really want a Ghost of Tsushima sequel tbh. I love the game but I don't think everything needs a sequel. It would probably just be more of the same anyways. The story ended fine and they don't need to add anything more to it, and with Rise of the Ronin coming out, it just seems unnecessary.
I'm also more picky now when it comes to investing myself in 50 hour open world games. I've already experienced Tsushima, and I can just go back to it if I ever want to play it again.
@UltimateOtaku91 i mean its kind of their job to report rumors , if you want to avoid them then being on these sites is something you should avoid till the conference.
i feel like they are working on two games one thats not ghost that will release first and they are in the early stages of the new ghost game. but with rise of ronnin being a ps5 exclusive ,we don't need ghosts right away.
Grub Hub is cool but he isn't the best source.
That's fine, just give us another inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper game instead to tide us over!
Legend of Dragoon remake or Dino Crisis, Infamous, Dark Cloud, ICO, Bloodborne remake. But if I have to choose it's Legend of Dragoon.
